My first day at NYFW started at 9 pm. I landed around 6 pm, arrived at my hotel (Hilton New York Fashion District) around 8 pm. I got glammed up quickly and then headed right over to the Refinery 29 - 29 Rooms Opening Night Event in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
It was a celebrity packed event; Lucy Liu, Emma Roberts, Bella Thorne, Rachel Bilson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Rosario Dawson, Mara Hoffman, Christian Siriano, Gabourey Sidibe, Stacy London, and SO many others were in attendence. I got to walk the red carpet (amongst these legit celebrities) which was equally hilarious (because why did they let me up there) and fun (pretending to be someone famous, lol). Check out some of the celebrity fashion from that night below.
The 29 Rooms event was held in a massive warehouse which was divided up into the main event area with a bar, DJ, and lots of interactive art exhibits, plus 29 separate rooms which each featured a different art installation. Smirnoff was serving up yummy Strawberry Moscow Mules ( my absolute fave - how did they know?! ), hors-d'oeuvres and cotton candy!
Check out some of my clips and favorite rooms in the video below. Some of the exhibits were so clever and thought-provoking! In the body positive room, you stand in front of a mirror and snap a selfie while words flash across the mirror. Then you look at the photo you captured to find out what your body positive word is. Mine was "I am present", which was so perfect because I felt so present and in the moment that night! Some other favorites were the Ulta Beauty Carousel (complete with a giant lipstick, nail polish, eyeshadow compact and pink unicorns), Aldo's Love Walk (a runway housed within a tunnel of lights and fabulous shoes), the silent disco room (a room FULL of disco balls. They provided headphones to listen to some fun, funky tunes to dance the night away), Jake Gyllenhaal's Shred It Room (the concept was to write down something that is holding you back. You then shred the piece of paper and feel the power of letting go) and Juicy Couture's life-size snow globe!
Marissa of @quartzandleisure joined me for the party. We had a BLAST checking out all of the rooms in this fun-house meets art exhibition meets museum. If you were following along on my instastories that night you know we ended up taking a zillion boomerangs, photos, and videos.
I also ran into one of my fave style bloggers, Maria Vizuete of @miamiamine. She was seriously the sweetest. I really enjoyed chatting with her and her husband, Phil.
It was such a FUN and epic way to celebrate my birthday and kick off my very first New York Fashion Week! I just heard that 29 Rooms is going to pop up in LA for a few days in December. It's open to the public. If you are in that area, trust me, you do not want to miss this!! Info: Refinery29.com/29rooms.
