Eyebrow Microblading (Review)

If you haven’t heard of microblading, it's a semi-permanent tattoo done with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine. The tool is used to draw on individual hair-like strokes that aren’t as deep as a regular tattoo. Microblading can create the appearance of naturally full brows for people with no brows, thin brows, blonde brows or those who just want to fill in and/or refine their brow shape. It's a huge beauty trend right now that can totally transform your brow game (aka #browgoals). Scroll down to see my before and after photo.

To be honest, I'm kind of lazy when it comes to shaping my brows with all of the brow powders, brushes, combs, stencils, pencils and gels that I have accumulated. The idea of waking up every morning with natural looking, full and perfectly shaped brows sounded very enticing.  So I decided to take the plunge and try it for myself when I found out that Sugar Me Wax in Scottsdale started offering this cutting edge beauty treatment. I knew I would be in great hands since Layne Nyberg, co-founder and COO of Sugar Me Wax, personally does all of the eyebrow microblading treatments.

At my first session, Layne first drew on my brows with a removable pencil to get the shape that she would then fill in with pigment during the microblading treatment. This part of the process is when the customized brow shape and arch is determined. Once she and I were both pleased with the drawn on brow, she applied numbing cream. After my brow area was numb, she started the microblading treatment. There was some discomfort, but it wasn't that bad and the end result was so worth it! The entire treatment took around 90 minutes. I went back for a touch up six weeks later where Layne made my brows slightly fuller and wider, and used a different color to add more dimension.

After the treatment, you cannot get your brows wet for a week, so no washing your brows with water, swimming or sweaty workouts. Aftercare ointment is provided at your first appointment, which you should reapply every 3 to 4 hours until your brows are healed. Overall they look great right away, so there’s no downtime. You can also expect the color to be pretty dark at first and then fade 30 to 40 percent in the first month. Microblading lasts 1 to 3 years, but I've heard it's recommended to get touchups once a year so that your brows always look fresh.
