Google Home (Review)

I'm not just obsessed with my Google Home because it's fun & makes my life easier, but it also looks chic in my office.

The white and copper device goes perfectly with my white and copper office decor.  The device comes standard with a gray base, however Google now offers interchangeable base colors, so you can customize your Google Home to match the color of your home decor.  I find this makes the device look more stylish and blend in with it's surroundings, so it's not an eyesore like most electronics.

Google Home is a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. You can ask it questions. Tell it to do things. You just start by saying, “Ok Google” to get answers straight from Google. You can enjoy music, manage your everyday tasks, and easily control smart devices around your home.

We've been having so much fun using the Google Home lately.  Some of our favorite things to ask it are:

-The hours of operations for a place we need to go and how long it will take to drive there.  For instance, we wanted to go to a restaurant for brunch last Sunday, so I said, "Ok Google, what time does Postino open today?" Then I asked, "Ok Google, how long will it take me to drive to Postino right now?"

-To play a specific song that we want to hear (my favorite song right now is, Something Just Like This by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay), a specific artist ("Ok Google, play music by The Beatles"), or a genre of music ("Ok Google, play some classical music").  The speaker has good sound quality, so the music sounds great and it has inspired a few "dance parties" (aka running around singing, dancing and being silly) this week with my son, William.

-Asking it to make animal sounds. William and I were goofing around asking the Google Assistant all sorts of strange questions and discovered that we could ask it what different animals sound like ("Ok Google, what does a grizzly bear sound like?"). As you can imagine this is very entertaining for a three year old. We crack up so much with this.

But seriously, it's like having a virtual assistant, so you can ask it anything you might search for on Google, plus what's on your calendar today, to play you the news (I love this feature), to set a timer or alarm, and control smart devices in your house, think lamps, thermostat and security alarm, etc.

I just noticed there is a limited-time $15 off Google Home deal right now (so instead of $129, it's $114). If you're still searching for a Mother's Day gift, I think this would make a great one.

Have a great week & thanks for stopping by!
